If you didn't read SoHo Savvy today here is a taste of what you missed:
Pride is relevant to the SoHo in two ways. The first way is putting yourself above the customer. Whether a service business or a product, the customer needs to come first. The other way pride is relevant is that larger businesses have a deep hierarchy of who does what, and each person can be responsible for their one niche. Small businesses do not have that luxury, you need to do what needs to get done — the opportunities for delegation are reduced, and the requirement that you’ll have to do jobs that are “beneath you” are increased. Get over it. Don’t take pride in self, status or title, but instead in take pride in just getting the job done, and done well.
Envy is important for the small businesses; you need to avoid it. Don’t focus on your competition. You aren’t your larger competitors, stop acting like them. You can’t afford to waste money trying to keep up with the Jones’s or the Fortune 100. Don’t waste resources living in the now, spend frugally and reinvest the savings into growth and your future. Run leaner and meaner, and in a few years those others might be envying you, if not your size at least your growth rate and productivity.
